Dedicant Guidelines

Dedicant Guidelines of the Green Faerie Grove

Please read all of the following and give due consideration to the demands being asked of you. If you have any questions or concerns, please talk them over with a Grove member.

*A candidate for dedication to Green Faerie Grove must:*

1. Feel a strong desire to explore and study the homoerotic as a pagan spiritual path, and see this Grove as a potential spiritual family and working group. We require a significant amount of work and commitment from Dedicants in order to make their training both meaningful and spiritually fulfilling.

2. Have the support of significant others (especially spouses or lovers) in the study of this path. We do not wish for a Dedicant’s spiritual life and home life to be at odds with one another.

3. Have a life with the necessary stability to allow for new experiences, personal development, and spiritual, emotional, and psychic growth. A Dedicant to this path should also be comfortable with himself as a gay, bisexual, or transgender man so that uncertainties in his sexual orientation do not interfere with his spiritual growth or path workings with the Grove.

4. Agree to uphold the privacy of all Grove Members, Dedicants, and guests including, but not limited to, the following information: birth names, street addresses, telephone numbers, email addresses, employment information, photographs, and other personal information. Carelessly divulging personal information is discourteous, potentially harmful, and destroys the trust that forms the basis for our brotherhood. Violation of this privacy requirement is grounds for dismissal per our bylaws.

5. Attend all scheduled Grove classes and rituals. A Dedicant should ensure that he has a schedule that permits him the necessary time to fulfill these obligations. If a Dedicant has a schedule conflict or emergency that prevents him from attending an event, he should notify his sponsor or another Grove Member. Rescheduling missed classes is at the convenience of the instructor. Unfortunately, this requirement obviously limits participation in the Dedicant program to those men who reside within a reasonable commuting distance of Columbus, Ohio. While remote study may be acceptable for some groups, Green Faerie Grove believes that face-to-face instruction and physical participation in ritual are necessary for proper learning and meaningful spiritual development.

6. Uphold his obligations to his family and job. A Dedicant shall not use the Grove as an excuse to escape, avoid, or neglect his adult responsibilities.

7. Apply the Rede and the Law of Three to his daily life, as well as to the knowledge and power that he gains from his teachings.

*The Wiccan Rede*
(Roughly equivalent to the Golden Rule)
/Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill,
“An it harm none, do what thou will”/
Wiccan Traditional*The Law of Three*
(Also known as the Law of Karmic Return)

/”Take care what thou send forth from thee,
For good or ill returns times three.”/

Garan Du (1999)

8. Work to build good relationships with Grove Members and other Dedicants, fostering an atmosphere of Perfect Love, Perfect Trust, and Brotherhood. The Dedicant shall spend some time interviewing each Grove Member in order to learn about their lives and so that the Grove Member may also learn something about the Dedicant. The Dedicant shall document these interviews in his journal, which will then be signed and dated by each Grove Member interviewed.

9. Create or purchase ritual garb for Grove ceremonies. While Green Faerie Grove does not have a set style of ritual garb, we generally wear clothing appropriate to the season (e.g., robes in cold weather, sarongs in hot weather). We believe that ritual garb should be comfortable and should reflect the personal tastes and spiritual outlook of our members.

10. Conduct himself in a manner that does not bring disrepute on himself or the Grove. “In the mirror of others are we reflected.” First impressions are the most lasting. Therefore, when a Dedicant studies or works with Green Faerie Grove, he should consider how his words and deeds reflect on his spiritual family. A Dedicant’s sponsor is responsible for his spiritual progress and actions. Do nothing to disgrace him in the eyes of others.

11. Respect himself, the Grove Members, other Dedicants, guests, and the practices of this Grove. If a Dedicant has a problem, he should bring it to the attention of his sponsor or any other Grove Member. Loving, open, and honest communication is the hallmark of trust and a keystone of our brotherhood.

12. Turn in work and study assignments on time and in an orderly fashion, and Keep personal magickal and spiritual records (i.e., a journal).

13. Establish an altar and Sacred Space in his home, and use it regularly.

14. Help support the Grove on the material plane as he is able, through the contribution of dues, supplies, and work, as necessary. Service to both the Grove and to the greater community are paramount to our path.

15. Respect Mother Earth and Her creatures. A Dedicant is not just expected to say the words, but to live them out by honoring Her sacredness and working for Her healing, preservation, and protection.
